Position Overview: One Stop Systems is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electro-Mechanical Assembler to assemble complex, high-value computing and electro-mechanical systems in our Escondido manufacturing facility.

This position requires extensive hands-on experience with precision mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, electronic component integration, and complete system builds. The ideal candidate is a technically proficient, self-sufficient assembler who can interpret engineering documentation, independently perform complex assembly operations, and identify and resolve assembly-related challenges with minimal supervision.

Unlike traditional assembly positions focused on repetitive production tasks, this role requires the ability to work across multiple product configurations in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.

Candidates must possess the experience and technical capability to become independently productive on assigned OSS products within approximately 2–4 weeks, following product-specific orientation, training, and qualification.

We are looking for experienced professionals who take ownership of their work, demonstrate excellent mechanical aptitude, and consistently deliver high-quality assemblies.

Reporting Relationships:

The Sr Electro-Mechanical Assembler reports to the Production Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Complex Electro-Mechanical Assembly

  • Independently assemble complex electro-mechanical systems, including ruggedized computer systems, server chassis, electronic enclosures, and custom integrated equipment.
  • Perform precision mechanical assembly involving chassis, structural components, mounting hardware, brackets, electronic assemblies, and related components.
  • Install and integrate electronic components, power supplies, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), cooling systems, cables, connectors, and wiring.
  • Perform cable routing, connector installation, wire management, and electrical interconnections according to approved engineering documentation.
  • Execute complex system builds involving multiple mechanical, electrical, and electronic subassemblies.
  • Properly use hand tools, power tools, torque-controlled equipment, measuring instruments, and other manufacturing tools.
  • Maintain excellent workmanship while handling sensitive, high-value electronic components and assemblies.

Engineering Documentation and Technical Interpretation

  • Read and accurately interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), wiring diagrams, and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Understand component relationships, assembly sequences, mechanical tolerances, and electrical interconnections.
  • Independently organize and execute assembly operations using approved manufacturing documentation.
  • Identify and communicate discrepancies involving drawings, BOMs, component fitment, and assembly instructions.
  • Adapt to new product configurations and engineering revisions while following approved change-control procedures.

Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving

  • Identify and resolve routine mechanical assembly, component fitment, installation, and wiring issues within established procedures.
  • Recognize incorrect components, missing hardware, misaligned parts, damaged connectors, and potential assembly defects.
  • Exercise sound technical judgment in determining when issues can be resolved through approved procedures and when Engineering or Quality support is required.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, Quality, and Production to address build challenges.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve assembly methods, reduce rework, and increase production efficiency.

Quality and Workmanship

  • Assemble products in accordance with engineering specifications, manufacturing procedures, customer requirements, and applicable workmanship standards.
  • Follow OSS quality management system requirements, including applicable AS9100D procedures.
  • Apply proper electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, foreign object debris (FOD) prevention, component handling, and material traceability practices.
  • Perform in-process checks and verify assembly accuracy, completeness, and workmanship before transferring systems to subsequent manufacturing or testing operations.
  • Maintain accurate production records and document manufacturing activities, discrepancies, and inspection results as required.
  • Consistently focus on first-pass quality, minimizing defects and avoiding unnecessary rework.

Production Execution and Teamwork

  • Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production schedules, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Efficiently transition between different product configurations and assembly requirements.
  • Support prototype builds, new product introductions, and established production programs.
  • Communicate material shortages, documentation problems, assembly challenges, and production risks promptly.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area consistent with 5S principles.
  • Assist in mentoring less-experienced assemblers and sharing established best practices when needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of directly relevant hands-on experience in complex electro-mechanical assembly, equipment integration, or comparable technical manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience independently assembling complex mechanical systems incorporating electrical and electronic components.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency in precision assembly techniques, hardware installation, alignment, fastening, and torque application.
  • Practical experience installing electronic assemblies, power supplies, wiring, cables, connectors, and other system components.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and basic electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency using common mechanical assembly tools, calibrated torque tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute assembly activities using established work instructions and engineering documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical integration issues at the assembly level.
  • Experience working with complex products requiring attention to detail, consistent workmanship, and careful component handling.
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision, exercise sound judgment, and communicate technical issues.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and accountability.

Formal engineering education is not required. Relevant hands-on experience, demonstrated technical competency, and the ability to independently build complex systems are the primary selection criteria.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience assembling ruggedized servers, industrial computers, electronic systems, aerospace or defense equipment, medical devices, or similarly complex electro-mechanical products.
  • Experience in high-mix, low-volume or custom manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with complete equipment builds rather than exclusively repetitive assembly-line operations.
  • Familiarity with AS9100D, ISO 9001, or other structured manufacturing quality systems.
  • Knowledge of IPC Standards, or other relevant electronics workmanship standards.
  • Experience supporting first-article builds, prototypes, new product introductions, or engineering changes.
